Festival of Voices

A few years ago, Brian Eno suggested that those moments when you sing collectively you stop thinking about ‘me’ and start thinking about ‘us.’

The “Festival of Voices” transforms Tasmania’s towns into singing cities every July. As Australia’s premier celebration of the voice, the Festival attracts thousands of singers, choristers and music lovers, for the chance to hear harmonies soaring in concert halls, theatres and public spaces across the state. The Festival is proud to bring some of the most respected singers from across Australia and overseas to this tiny island’s shores. For eleven years the “Festival of Voices” has presented a remarkable program of performances and – uniquely – vocal workshops run by critically acclaimed artists, creating a Festival experience like no other.

First impressions of Australia’s most southern, island capital are powerful. Remarkably natural in both landscape and character, there’s a charm from the past that is unaffected by a progressive personality. And yet, Hobart is a city with a global following. This is a place blessed by nature, from the breathtaking Mount Wellington, to the vastness of the River Derwent at its hem. Existing in harmony with this amazing landscape is a compact city packed with culture and character boasting quality museums, galleries and Australia’s oldest theatre, convict landmarks established during the settlement of Tasmania’s first colony and Australia’s first brewery.
